What is Art Enrichment?

Art Enrichment is a monthly short, interactive classroom discussion with students about pre-selected works of art. Art enrichment volunteers lead and drive the discussions, and often run a hands on activity (see ideas below in Resources).

Art Enrichment is not Art Class. But it is so much fun! Our students and volunteers really enjoy it!

What is Required of Volunteers?

  • The volunteer’s job is to facilitate a discussion with students.
  • The artwork is used as the beginning of the conversation, but will lead you in many different directions.
  • No artistic talent and no prior background in art is expected.
  • Materials are pre-selected for each grade and will be provided to you.
  • Suggested discussion topics and activities are available below in Resources, but volunteers are free to come up with their own ideas for activities and questions for a particular artwork.
  • Experienced Art Enrichment volunteers are always happy to share their ideas!

What's the Time Commitment?

Volunteers spend approximately 30 minutes in the classroom once each month to lead the discussion. Preparation for each discussion takes about 20-30 minutes.

Dates and times are flexible! Volunteers arrange times directly with the teacher. And no worries if you need to skip a month or two, you are not required to cover all provided artwork.
